More Ideas Than Time

Sometimes I feel like I have so many ideas, I can't write them all down before I forget one. Other times, I feel completely uncreative. Happily, I'm in a "the zone" right now!

The Loft
This is where Will and Emma (my niece and nephew) stay when they come to play!

View from the loft. Aren't those windows fantastic? The house was designed so that all the windows could be open during spring and fall to let air circulate through.

I made that oyster shell mirror myself! (Maya over at Completely Coastal posted a link to Self Confessed Lamp Tramp, which helped me out.) So here's a close-up...

I'm No Carrie Bradshaw

I spent the better part of my evening (when I wasn't hiding from tornadoes in the basement) trying to clean and organize my closet. I used to think something like this was my dream....

domino closet

But, seriously? Who could wear all those? Turns out, this is where I'm at. Only mine doesn't look so pretty. And guess what?

closet-design-ideas-celebrity-closets-03-a

I don't wear all the clothes in my closet...but I'm afraid to get rid of them. What if I have to go somewhere and that sweater I've never worn is the only appropriate thing I could possibly wear? Pfft! We were at the beach last week, and I didn't even wear all the clothes I brought with me then. I wore the same things over and over again. I do that at home too.

I used to think it would be totally fabulous to have a library ladder in my closet. But looking at all the stuff I've bought and never wear made me feel sick! So that's it! I'm not buying any more clothes. I'm stopping here.

But I do need some shorts for the summer....

Repurposing

I'm all about found objects repurposed as something else. So I'm loving this bass drum turned side table...

Trad Home!

Trad Home, a collaboration between Lonny and Traditional Home has launched. And it's everything I think "new traditional" should be!

Trad Home Issue 1 a

Trad Home Issue 1 b

Trad Home Issue 1 c

The first issue featured 20 designers (seriously!) with updated traditional spaces. And each designer gave tips for how to create the look you see in the mag. Some of them are quirky...

Trad Home Issue 1 d

(Totally LOVE that, by the way)

Trad Home Issue 1 e

Some of them are collected....

Trad Home Issue 1 f

(I love the these garden benches with the round table. Unexpected, but totally works!)

Trad Home Issue 1 g

Some are quite modern with more traditional elements thrown in...

Trad Home Issue 1 h

Trad Home Issue 1 i

And some are full of great textures...

Trad Home Issue 1 j

Trad Home Issue 1 k

Now, it may seem like I've given away a lot of the mag, but y'all - at 347 pages, this issue is "thick." And the writing ain't bad either. I usually don't read articles in design magazines (or almost any magazine), but I actually stopped and read some of these - like "10 Things my Mother Told Me," "Meet Sibella Court," and "Design on a Grand Scale" about Dorothy Draper. This is definitely worth checking out if you haven't already. Happy reading!

Shelf of Curiosities

Found this beautiful bookcase over at Little Green Notebook in a post she did on bookshelf styling.

Little Green Notebook Bookcase

I'm with her - loving the ostrich egg and the terrarium. But also the turtle shells, alligator head, coral, and....the thing with the big teeth in the bottom left corner. Is it a walrus? What else has teeth that big? Prehistoric rabbit? Love it!

I Just Couldn't Resist...

This is the cake I made for my niece's birthday Sunday. I was so proud of myself for pulling it off. I used this Martha Stewart recipe, but not her recommended icing (it calls for 8 - yep, eight!! - sticks of butter....I just couldn't bring myself to do it). So I made cream cheese frosting and rolled out pre-made neon fondant from Hobby Lobby for the polka dots.

Stormy Master Bath

I have seen this bathroom several times. It seems like every single time I pick up an issue of Coastal Living, there it is. And every time I like it a little more than the last.

I love the stormy, vintage(?) painting against the clean white paint.
