Headboards...that are nice to look at, but don't really work

I got my first issue of Better Homes and Gardens in the mail a few days ago (I haven't had a chance to read it yet), so I went over to their website to see what was going on.

The first thing I saw was this image. I LOVE IT! I do not think it works in real life, because it would be very uncomfortable to sit up in bed, but I just love it. Of course I do. Look at all those recycled letters from signs! My mom and Sandi went dumpster diving with me the other day to look for that kind of thing.

Um....let me clarify. There was a dumpster with a sign that said "FREE" at an old supermarket in Russellville that is being renovated. I had to stop to see what kind of industrial items I might find. Sadly, the letters from the sign had been thrown in the bottom and crushed to pieces (so so sad). But now that I know this happens, next time I see a building being renovated, I'm going to stop and ask what I can have.

I also like this idea with the old handkerchiefs, but again I'm not sure how comfortable it would be to sit up in bed. But I like this room's overall look too. It's so interesting with the side tables (are those drums?!), all the different linens, and that (50's style?) bench.

And a Few More Things...

Another image of what my new kitchen will look like...

Love it(!), but can't actually use it....
If I had a daughter, we would have a picture like this one hanging in our house....

And I feel like I need this sheep to greet me when I walk in the front door.

I found all these images over at Black Eiffel, which I found via Simply Grove

I love these women!

I just found out that Season 3 of Designing Women came out on DVD in March. Off to Hastings I go!

And, if you haven't visted Natchez, MS for Pilgrimage, they do a play at their Little Theatre called Southern Exposure that is A LOT like this clip! And well worth seeing!

Earthy and Cozy

I found this living room on the Ideal Home website. I love the branchy thing over the fireplace, the feathery limbs on the walls, and that huge chunk of wood they're using for the mantel.

Oh, and that dog looks pretty cozy too!

Cake Stands

I spent a good protion of my evening last night making this cake (which I think will be very tastey!), and good portion of my morning trying to fix it (the icing was too runny). So I was thinking about how even when the cake layers themselves fall apart, everything can be put back together with a little glue (icing).

Cakes are all about presentation. Sure, they taste good, but I really want a cake that is pretty to look at.

So I love cake stands! They really complete the look. And, after I've spent time baking, I want to put my creation on a pedestal!

Um...is this Martha's pantry? I want to look through it. I don't think her daughter wants any of it....have you seen her show?

I have a feeling I'll be looking for vintage cake stands on my upcoming trip to Canton.....

My Old House

I was sitting in my family room thinking about how my style has changed since moving to our new house. Mostly, my old house had a neater, overall more organized look. That was our first house - the house where I developed my style. I've been so overwhelmed with all the new space, that I STILL have unpacked boxes. Don't get me wrong, I'm very blessed and very thankful to have this new house, but our first house will always hold a special place in my heart.

Nice

This is a 1951 House Beautiful that I found here.
I'm going to be working on my pool house/deck area this week to get it ready for swimming season. I've some great ideas that I hope will make the space more user-friendly for us. I'm excited, because I usually don't have very good ideas for outdoor spaces (I don't do planting, and I don't like bugs). And this year we have this vine growing up the side of the deck that has put out some really pretty flowers. This should be fun!

The Foyer

I can remember the very first time I heard the word foyer (pronounced foi-yay). We had moved to a new town in Louisiana, and this house was much larger than our old house. It had this beautiful entryway with stone flooring (I remember there seemed to be so much texture in that house), and I asked my mom what that room was called. She replied, "It's a foyer (foi-yer, as we said it there, and I still prefer that pronunciation even though it may not be correct)." At the time I could not understand why you would need a room that you only used for greeting guests, coming, and going.

But ever since I've been old enough to understand their practicality and how beautiful they can be, I've been a little obsessed with them. So I looked up the definition to make sure I was using the word correctly, since there are so many things we call the entryway of our houses.

A foyer is 1. an entrance hall or 2. a lobby or anteroom, as of a theatre or hotel.

An entry is a means or place by which to enter.

And a hallway is 1. a corridor in a building or 2. an entrance hall.

(All definitions from here)

Basically, all these things are interchangeable, and you can use whatever word makes you happy. I'm going with foyer.

Blue

Only occasionally can you go wrong with blue. Most of the time it's perfect...

Where was THIS tile when we went shopping today?

Patio Furniture at Lowe's

Have you seen the retro patio furniture collection at Lowe's? I wanted the chairs last year, and this year they've added a glider. Maybe I'll get something. (The chairs are only $40).

They just look so happy!

Please, Oh Please!

Can I have a picture taken of Rachel and myself just like this one to frame and hang on my wall? Please?

I'm Impressed

I found my April issue of Architectural Digest, which I had apparently never read, last night. Now, usually I get a little bored with that magazine, because it feels so beyond my reach. The houses tend to be a little too grand for my taste. BUT, I spotted this house by Appelton & Associates and just stared at it forever. I want to vacation here or live here or something....

I couldn't find many pics of it on-line, but definitely visit Appleton's website here to see more of this house (Braverman Residence) and more of their work - the architecture really is splendid!

I Want This Room

I want to come in this door, hang my coat on that rack, stack my boots on that floor (when do I wear boots?), and maybe have my wool sheep, Havalee Mae, live just outside that door.

Some Things.

I want vintage bundt pans on MY walls!

I think we should take a trip to St. Louis, because there is A LOT of stuff to do there. And (and this is VERY cool), the zoo has a penguin experience program, but you gotta book it 3 weeks ahead.

I think I should get a porch swing for my back deck, a la Martha.

And, Desire To Inspire did an Easter reading list of new favorite blogs found over the last year. It's LONG, and wonderful! And it's how I found Full House, which is going on my favorites list.

Full House

Friday's Art On The Wall

Since I LOVE and CAN'T GET ENOUGH OF walls of artwork, I decided to start a segment that I will (hopefully) post every Friday called Art On The Wall. Here is the inaugural wall. Enjoy! And have a happy Easter weekend!

I Could Sleep Here All Summer

I don't even know if this room is on the beach, but the white walls and lighting make it feel like a vacation. And I love how the arch detail on the wall frames the whole thing!
